Frequently Asked Questions
Does it hurt?
Yes. But we numb you. And that really takes the edge off. Most patients find the pain very tolerable and an instant pain that is quickly over as the Tixel is released in a millisecond. Plan on arriving 30 minutes before your actual procedure begins to begin the process of numbing.
What’s the downtime like?
You will immediately feel like you have a rather severe sunburn. You will have some mild to moderate swelling for a few hours that will subside throughout the night. The next day, the appearance of the sunburn will persist. The burn will transition to small grid patterns that appear to darken before they disappear on day 3-4. The degree of their darkening depends on the extent of your treatment. Mild cases will have much less significant recovery periods than patients who require amore significant treatment protocol for their condition. Recovery correlates to extent of damage.
Is the procedure dangerous?
It is not. The skin barrier break down is minimal compared to laser, IPL or CO2 ablations. This modality leaves your skin much less susceptible to infection with a much greater safety profile and similar efficacy.
Do you recommend using this in adjunct with other treatments?
- We do! But, with adequate spacing between each treatment plan. Which is why we customize a plan just for you and your skin based on your goals. Because Tixel uses fractionated heat to trigger damage for a healing response, we want your skin very well prepped. We recommend a Hydrafacial pre procedure to ensure your skin is thoroughly exfoliated, hydrated and well nourished. This allows for a better immune response which will decrease any downtime and enhance results. We also love to pair Tixel with Secret RF Microneedling! And no, it's not just to sell you more! Imagine your skin like restoring a house, you repair the framing and structure before you would just start painting it pretty colors, right?! Tixel is your pretty colors and Secret RF is your foundation! We want to repair the skin from within, AND repair what's on the surface. This “restoration” will target your skin at different levels, and different layers of the skin to help build new elastin and collagen. We also like to pair Tixel with a few laser treatments or IPL.
How long will it take to see results
A true, non-invasive face transformation takes about 6 months. Why? In order to produce a new layer of skin that is refreshed, hydrated, smooth, and tight we need a whole new surace. We get this by increasing cellular turnover. Through a process called desquamation, every 28-40 days a new skin cell is produced in the deepest layer of the skin. Getting those beautiful new cells to the surface takes time, trust the process.
